Andre Benedict Malabanan, simply known as Andre, was born in the city called Muscat in Oman as a Filipino. His family later moved back to the Philippines when he was 4 years old and was raised there until he graduated elementary. It was also when he developed a curiosity in photography using a Kodak film camera which he would usually sneak out from his mother’s drawer to take random pictures. In 2008, He went back to Oman and studied in high school for 3 years where his classmates started calling him direk - a Filipino slang for the word director – when they worked on a film project in the class. He started to consider filmmaking as a career path. In 2010, they returned to the Philippines and he continued using a Kodak camera but this time - a digital camera and would always bring it in school to take pictures. He took media production classes in De La Salle University - Dasmarinas until his family moved to Ohio in 2017.
Andre is currently studying in Cuyahoga Community College under the Film and Media Arts program. He still loves photography, especially shooting product photos and still photography in student film sets. He is employed in the college's Student Production Office where he works as a videographer and editor. As a videographer, he has worked on various marketing and documentary type videos. He worked mostly in the camera department in his student peers’ films. As an editor, he has worked on a series of promo spots for Tri-C and Live Nation Cleveland for the 24th Annual Tri-C High School Rock Off. He also enjoys doing motion graphics. He has worked freelance with other off-campus companies such as Garage Creative Studios and Think Media Studios. He is excited and ready to graduate in Summer 2020 to finally expand his filmmaking experience in the field.
